Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Search Engine Optimisation is the process of analysing a website and increasing the quality and volume of search engine traffic which is generated through natural search engine results. The higher a site ranks within the search engine results pages (SERPS), the higher the volume of potential visitor traffic.

But what does SEO actually involve ?

In basic terms it involves structuring your site in such a way that spiders from Search Engines (Google, Yahoo, etc and Bing) can easily read your site. These search engines will then display your site details when users search for something you can provide.

How do I improve the SEO ?

There are many things that can be done to ensure your site is relevant involving:-

On-page Optimisation

This is building or modifying your website content to make it more attractive to search engines for specific keywords or phrases. This involves defining various meta-tags and meta-descriptions as well as content text which is relevant to a specific keyword(s).

Off-page Optimisation

This involves linking to, and being linked to, other websites that are relevant to your website. The aim is to have as many other sites as possible linking to your site on the chosen keyword(s) such that search engines increase your ranking in the natural results page.

The relevance of these other sites is an essential factor however their own page ranking (ie quality) is also an important factor.
